Germany has taken a step toward serial production of the TAURUS NEO missile by signing a contract between the Bundeswehr and TAURUS Systems GmbH, a joint venture between MBDA and Saab.
The agreement establishes the industrial foundations to manufacture, on German territory, the modernized version of the weapon, seen as a key element in restoring the country’s long-range strike capability.
According to MBDA, the TAURUS NEO will have a range of more than 500 kilometers, low-observable features, and guidance systems capable of penetrating modern air defenses. These characteristics would allow the German Air Force to engage fixed targets from safer positions, outside the reach of adversary air-defense systems, reducing operational risks.
The program already includes initial technological development work launched at the end of 2024, with the aim of accelerating deliveries once production begins. Progress on the TAURUS NEO is taking place in parallel with the expansion of MBDA’s industrial capacity, which plans to invest €2.4 billion between 2025 and 2029 and double its missile production over the recent period.
